Tiger Curse Book 1 in the Tiger Curse Series Colleen Houck Books

Tiger's Curse is a romance laced with adventure, history and lore, set in the lush beautiful jungles of India. I really liked the unique story Colleen introduced me to, and the adventure she takes me on. With the story's vivid descriptions it wasn't hard to imagine what it was like hiking through the jungles of India with Ren and Kelsey. I really enjoyed the cast of characters I got to meet, Ren and Mr. Kadam were two of my favorites as their history and loyalty together were very intriguing.

The story's main protagonist, Kelsey really started out as a strong character and someone I really came to like. She is very brave, and determined, and will do anything to protect Ren, the white tiger she has come to love. After learning about his curse, she didn't wavier on wanting to help him and the way she felt about him. In the second half of the story I become really frustrated and confused with Kelsey's character. Kelsey went from someone who admits to herself she loves Ren, and she knows without a doubt that he loves her in the first half of the book, to someone who becames full of self doubt and wanted nothing more than to fight with Ren and push him away. I felt like she became two different characters from the first half of the story to the second, and I was left trying to figure out what kind of character she is after I thought I just got to know her. Had her self-doubting happened earlier on in the story, it would have made more sense, but not after everything they've been through. What she does in the last part of the book to Ren really irked me though I love how he handles her with confidence.

Despite my character flaw issues with Kelsey, I liked the way Ren and Kelsey's connection was written. It was intense, sincere, beautiful and very romantic. Ren is quite the charmer and I loved the way he respects Kelsey. It wasn't hard to fall in love with Ren's character. Despite how often Kelsey says how good looking he is, I really liked his mannerisms, his confidence and loyalty. I'm sure he'll have readers swooning for him as much as he made Kelsey swoon. He's definitely a stronger character who is very sure of himself, but in a very grounded way. It's not hard to see why Kelsey is so drawn to him, no matter how hard she fights it.

Over all I really enjoyed the story, as I got wrapped up in the love story, the history of the story's curse, and enjoyed being swept away into a beautiful, vividly detailed setting. I am really looking forward to reading the next two books in this series, to see how things come together. I want to know where Ren and Kelsey's relationship will go, how they will obtain breaking the curse entirely and what will happen to Ren's brother. Though I am very frusterated with losing my character connection with Kelsey, there is still a lot things that take place in the story that I enjoyed, which is why I'm giving Tiger's Curse a 4 star rating. It's a great debut and one I think other's will enjoy as much as I did. Wait till you meet the character behind those hypnotic blue eyes on the cover.....

Tiger Curse Book 1 in the Tiger Curse Series Colleen Houck Books Reviews

Disappointment.

I bought these books (because I own, yes! the 3 of them and I preordered the 4th one).

THE BOOK since I own two s (the keyboard and the Fire), I was puzzled about this book not been able to be purchased through this service, so I ordered the hardcover versions. The books are magnificently binded, pretty sturdy, and with a nice quality of paper. I love that and not completely regret the fact of not being able to carry the books in my devices.

THE STORY LINE it began with a bright premise. An orphan-sweet-good mannered-go with the flow teenage girl. An Indian Prince trapped by a curse in the form of a majestic white tiger. An opportunity. A travel. A wonderful world of adventures.
At what it would be the 65% of the book, Kelsey, the main female character, transforms herself into an ocean of confusion and turmoil. From being in a very congruent situation, suddenly everything is stained with her inner monologue, her inner indecision, and the way she auto justified herself for casting away the man who loves her.

Maybe I am asking a lot, in the end, she is just a teenager who doesn't know her own feelings.

THE WRITING I am puzzled by Mrs. Houck and her convoluted way of writing. I don't know if she had an editor, but someone has had to tell her about this. One can read her books, and live everything she writes, but that doesn't mean that her way of writing is enjoyable or sometimes even clear.

THE SAGA I feel highly betrayed because all this senseless drama is only the excuse for the publication of the second, third and fourth books. She totally distorted the main female character in order to prolong the story.

THE ADVENTURES It is not J.R.R. Tolkien. It is not Jules Verne. It is not J.K. Rowling. It is not even Charlaine Harris or Stephenie Meyer, but the adventures are highly enjoyable.

THE SETTING a wonderful Indian setting, full of jungle, heat, gods and goddesses, and magic places. I loved that part.

I am stuck in the second or third chapter of the second book, unable to swallow this teenager full of mixed feelings who, at that point in the story, doesn't know what she wants. And it is not only that, is the pushing-pulling the rope in almost every single page, what is annoying. Somewhere in time, I will finish this saga, because I love to read and I want to know how everything ends but, for now, I won't continue torturing myself reading these books.
