A tale of a foul-mouthed barbarian and a sultry swordswoman.
Byron was a simple wandering axe-man in search of nothing more than taverns for ale drinking and buxom maidens to take to bed. In his journey for such treasures he stumbles upon a female of a mythical race, and soon after, an aging wizard. Both of which would need his axe and mace to achieve their common goal to rid the dying realm of its evil sorceress queen, and to destroy the magical relic that drove her to unspeakable madness.
With visions of glory, victory, and possibly countless maidens fawning over him, a reluctant Byron accepts his part in the mission. From there the aimless barbarian falls neck deep into a world of violence, heinous creatures of legend, and evil sorcery that will deceive him every step of the way.

Conan didn't get to have this much fun. Jeff O'Brien's obvious affection for the Cimmerian shows in this clever, smile-inducing pair of narratives (there's a shorter story after the main one) that hit all the right fun buttons in the classic stud loner with a good heart meets good and evil beauties mode. Original despite its obvious roots and nods to said roots, both stories speed along so quickly because of Jeff's smooth narrative style that I was able to read them at a single sitting - a true rarity and a big compliment in my book: I didn't want to stop. Jeff wisely makes his tale sexier than Conan stories, which works in my book because the hero who never gets laid thing wears thing quickly for me. Byron may have a name that's not exactly studly by 21st century standards but it doesn't exactly impede his Bond-like ways with the ladies. Which, as I said, I far prefer to the "Ooh! They ALMOST kissed!" cop-outs that more gritty and violence-addicted narratives of this kind tend to fall back upon. There's a bit of Flesh Gordon in this, and if you don't like Flesh Gordon - well - maybe some foods rich in Vitamin E may be in order. I should mention that every once in a while a truly anachronistic phrase gets tossed in with the otherwise appropriate "era speak," but since O'Brien is clearly having fun with this in a satirical sense I think that makes it even more entertaining. Looking forward to Book the 2nd.Product details

The Sorceress Queen Byron the Barbarian Book 1 edition by Jeff O'Brien Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
If a horny oversexed twenty year old were to write sword and sorcery, then The Sorceress Queen would be the result. Bedding wenches has become effing them. Bosoms have become tits. Using modern words put me off. And since when was being a barbarian a conscious choice? I thought you were born and raised that way. Meh.
Putting my personal preferences aside, the text was edited very well by today's e-book standards. The cover is eye catching and lets you know exactly what you are about to get into with this story. Irreverent humor is found throughout.
Will I read the other two in the series? Maybe. Would I recommend this to friends? Not really.
So much barbaric fun. Someone needs to turn this into a comic book series--now.
A fun romp of an adventure. The life of a Barbarian, battles, booze, and big breasts. Quick and humorous tale of Byron and his adventure in defeating an evil, albeit a gorgeous and big breasted, sorceress.
Bring on more tales!!
read ok
I haven't been much for S&S tales for a long time, but this is a hell of a read! Join Byron as he kills his way to bed many lovely women. It's a fun ride. The short story at the end is pretty cool, too.
A good; but old theme. Another barbarian story with magic, monsters, and seductive
half clothed women. Lust and violence are the mainstay of this book.
There were two classes of fun low budget movies of my childhood, horror and barbarian. I've already seen O'Brien bring back the horror side for me, and now he does the barbarian side as well. This really captures the spirit of that art form in a way that's fun and engaging. Of course, there's also breasts as well. Can't forget about the breasts. It does honor to classics of the original genre like "Deathstalker II," to which I believe there is even a direct reference. Gotta love it, and I gotta check out the next volume.
