Rachel, fifteen year old never knew the other side of her until spending time with a dying man help her reailze the life she never explored of herself. I give this book four stars, because those who are interested in love story; would find this book helping you reailze where true love can be found.
I thought this book was really good. It really had real life events and gave people more to love about their family and friends. Rachel had figured out how much her grandfather ment to her a little to late. When I read this book it made me feel like I shouldn't treat my family so bad. I also like how Rachel spent more time with her grandfather when he was dying instead of thinking of herself and being with Lewis.
This book is about a girl named Rachal. She is fifteen years old. She worries about her family and friends and what they think about her. She does not know if she will ever get kissed. She thinks about her brother all the time because he is in the war. The brother in the war his name is Jeremy. She also has another brother named Phil. He is the oldest brother and, he is in Spokane, Washington living with other family members. Rachal misses him a lot. Phil is the brother that writes letters and sends photos and comes to visit. She gets in a lot of fights with her parents. She is very confused right now in her life. This is a very good book. I think if you take the time to read it you will really enjoy this book. It might take a little bit of time for you to read but it will pay off to read it. It is about 249 pages long.
I first read this book, as an assignment for the writing camp, where Norma Fox Mazer was the writer in residence.
And then i have met her. It was a great honor for me, and i was very surprised at the way Norma looked at everyone's work in the workshop. She was very nice, and never said that she hated the work, but instead found very interesting details about the things we wrote.
I thought that this novel was something that she wrote from her personal experiences with her grandparent. But as it turned out, it is total fiction, which really amazed me, since the book sounds so realistic, so from a young person's point of view!
If you ever get stuck in bad weather, and you want an easy read, this is definitely the choice!
I am a 38 yr old woman who read this book almost 30 years ago!!! I don't remember the specifics of the story between Rachel and her grandpa but what has stayed with me is that this book was incredibly touching. I'm an avid reader and I remember being given this book for my birthday or Christmas. I have fond memories of this book because at 10/11 years old, I was just beginning to "experience" books. I highly recommend this story, well written and touching!
