This is one of those novels I was so excited to read I could hardly contain my excitement. I had read the Billionaire series and loved it. I happened to find Josie as one of my favorite female characters, she has a sass that draws you to her. And in that respect, this book was perfect. It encompassed Josie's fun, sarcastic personality. However, the rest is where it fell flat for me.
The instalove, mingled with too much repetitive filler. When I hit the parts I knew I've heard about or covered previously in the story I found myself skipping them.
As a whole I liked the story, I liked where she ended up and the little quirks along the way. And the writing was good.
Unfortunately it just didn't do it for me, like I had hoped.

It Complicated Her Billionaires #2 eBook Julia Kent Reviews

To be honest, I couldn't get half way through it. The characters are too much in their heads for you not to know anything real about them. It's like a continuation of the previous book. The first few chapters are about the threesome so much so that i had to go back and read the description to make certain I'd bought the correct book.

Josie is basically a secondary character in her own book. She's spending so much time trying to figure out her friend's relationship, which is really not her business, that you barely see her and the doctor connect.

There's too much internalizing and not enough dialogue. Why did it take five pages to describe their first handshake? Someone in the book literally asks a question in the beginning that is not answered until four pages later.

I was already skimming by the time the couple FINALLY met each other. Don't need that much detail about Alex's preference for not cutting, don't need to know the details with the two fathers getting into the birthing room, don't care about Laura's reluctance to give birth or their meal before they go to the hospital. Don't need so many details about a nurse Alex went out with once. That could have come later if she became an issue with their relationship.

The first three chapters are just plain filler. It's like the author was stalling on letting Josie and Alex meet and have any meaningful conversation. It feels forced.

Even now, just fresh from reading the three chapters I got through, I had to go back and look up Josie and Alex's names. But I know Dylan, Mike, Laura, Madge, Ed, Jeddy, Sherri, and even Lisa's names without hesitation. Too much about people who should have little to do with the story.

I guess I just don't like this meandering, sort of off on a tangent, style of writing. Also, it really wasn't that complicated. Couples meet all kinds of ways. At a friend's / patient's birth, not so complicated. It's called a "meet cute." I think I'll pass on any more Julia Kent books.

Two stars for a nice cover.
This was very surprisingly bad. I got 22% through it and couldn't stand to read any more. The writing was childish. The 'one glance and I am so in love with you' scenario was not at all real life. I got that a polyamorous relationship is not usual, but when you keep saying that, it becomes annoying fast. A doctor with no self control and a supposedly grown woman getting zings in her 'girly parts' is unimaginative writing. I rarely comments, but this was just bad writing and I want to save anyone else from it.
The main characters in this story, Josie and Alex have left their past defined them, as to who they are and what they're worth in contributing to relationships and their jobs. Alex seems to march to his own drum, but very focused, as a young doctor to be in tune to the patients needs and wishes, which is good, until letting himself be distracted by his interest in Jose and his ethic's and how he proceeded with a patient comes into question and doubt sets in. Alex does not deal with doubt or indecisions well, let alone by his peers. Josie, never feeling she is good enough, and always questioning herself, tends to put up blocks when it comes to relationships. So we travel through Alex and Josie's journey of complicating everything. It tends to give one a headache, yet, we do that ourselves, always defining ourselves by what life has dealt us and how we've thought we made better choices, all to find out, we've Complicated things again.

While some of the the storyline may not be something I'm interested to read, or consider in my life, even with the authors easy writing style to read, this does give one pause and ponder our own path's we've taken and choose to travel.

In my opinion, this series of books follow the different characters, but I feel each book can stand alone. While not wanting to continue with this series, I would like to see how this author does with some of her other series.
Perhaps I would have benefited by reading the previous books in this series because this one felt like I was dropped in the middle of something I didn't understand. I thought this was about Mike, Dylan, and Laura but it turns out that it was about her best friend Josie and Alex. It was a rather tedious story. I wanted to like it but the characters were without much depth and I only have a vague idea of how they look. Josie was emotionally unavailable, the type of girl who uses sex as a weapon. In other words, she uses sex instead of revealing her emotions. Then why did the author have the two characters engage in sex every time they encountered each other instead of making an effort to get to know each other? I found that sad. I have worked with emotionally abused women and most of them believe their worth is limited to putting out. Men don't want to know what makes them tick, ie what pleases them, they only want to know how fast they'll spread their legs. Good luck getting women to see they are more valuable than a screw. Sorry, I digress, anyway, my point is there is a lot of talk about deep emotional connections and yet it was really just a sexual romp. Well, if you are going to fill that many pages with romping, it could at least be interesting. Instead it was a skim fest.
